Hey there. I'm David. Here are some things to know about me:
I enjoy writing, reporting and editing.
I'm a very detail-oriented person. I've been a stickler for grammar since I can remember, and the coolest thing about becoming an editor was seeing that trait pay off in a meaningful way.
I'm also a huge fan of AP Style. With that said, I can edit or write to any style guide you may have. Will I roll my eyes as I leave in your oxford commas? Perhaps. But they'll be there.
I've always seen writing and editing as problem-solving puzzles. It's fun figuring out how to get your message across in a memorable, clear and succinct way.
I'm a very deadline-driven person. To save you the trouble of asking me the cliché " what's your greatest weakness?" interview question, it's procrastination. I've always done that, and while it's something I'm always trying to work on (and I've gotten much better about planning and doing things ahead of time), I've found that my history as a procrastinator has made me into somebody who thrives and finds absolute focus under pressure and near a deadline.
I'm always eager to learn. You know those people you meet who seem like they think they know everything? That's not me. I love learning new things, and I believe we all learn new things and get better at our crafts every day.
I am very comfortable working on my own, but I also thrive in collaborative environments.
A few more things ...
I'm a huge basketball junkie. I can spend endless hours that feel like minutes going through film and stats.
I enjoy tasting dark coffee and hoppy beer. Going to a nice café or brewery is one of my favorite pastimes – and both make great workplaces, too!
I'm always down for a chat about music (mainly rock/alternative rock, hip-hop and R&B), TV (favorite shows include The Office – I know, how original of me – Mad Men, Lost and Community) or places (favorite cities I've been to include New Orleans, Austin, Nashville, Venice, Brussels and London).
The list of "classic" movies I haven't seen is bigger than the list of the ones I have seen, which is something I'd like to change.
